Periodontal disease is a widespread oral health condition, affecting about half of all adults in the United States, and can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. At Garcia Family Dental, we focus on taking a preventive approach to halting the onset and progress of Seymour gum disease. Utilizing state of the art technology and methods, we strive to protect your mouth against gum disease, helping you enjoy a lifetime of excellent oral health.

Gum disease occurs when a sticky film called plaque gathers below the gum line, infecting and inflaming the soft tissues and bone structure supporting the teeth. By brushing, flossing, limiting your intake of sugar and visiting our office for professional teeth cleanings, you are taking important the most important steps in preventing gum disease. While you may not feel any discomfort during initial stage of gum disease, which is known as gingivitis, you may experience bleeding gums, swelling and bad breath. To accurately diagnose gingivitis, our dentist will provide a comprehensive examination, assisted by the use of advanced digital radiography as needed. Treatment for gum disease in its earliest stages may include more frequent teeth cleanings, improvements to your at-home oral hygiene routine, antibiotics and deep periodontal cleanings. Our dentist may recommend a deeper cleaning involving a scaling and root planing procedure. During this treatment plaque is removed from underneath the gums and then the root surfaces of teeth are smoothed to prevent further plaque accumulation.  Treating Seymour gum disease from its outset allows for the most effective, precise and gentle course of treatment.

At Garcia Family Dental, we provide comprehensive solutions to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums. Our goal is to prevent and treat Seymour gum disease early on, before it progresses to more advanced stages periodontal disease. To learn more or to schedule an appointment, call today.
